Award winning artist Lorna Allan continually seeks out the wild and beautiful as subjects for her paintings. Her extensive travels throughout New Zealand recording High Country sheep stations, high peaks, stunning native forests and secluded lakes, is transferred to canvas time and again.Commissions from some of New Zealand’s more remote farmers have been recorded for their posterity.
Ever the adventurer with this same love of wilderness and extreme beauty, Lorns has sought unconventional methods of travel in some of the most remote parts of Alaska. A private tugboat and it’s Captain toothier on a journey in her quest to reproduce not just majestic landscapes, but the birds and animals that make their hom there. Many of the resultant paintings found their way back to this landscape that she says, “captured her soul”.
An excellent photographer, Lorns has spent time with and learned from some of the best wildlife photographers, both in New Zealand and the USA. Her increasing expertise behind the lens enables her to more accurately capture the details she wishes to reproduce on canvas.Lorna has completed ‘Artist-In-Residence’ programs in South Canterbury, New Zealand, Stewart, British Columbia, the small Edc-Cruise ship ‘Discovery’ in Prince William Sound. Alaska, and in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, USA, painting alongside some of the finest landscape painters there.
Many of Lorna’s paintings are in private collections worldwide, and she continues to market her work internationally
